Meet The Skeg & The Machina: How MINI’s Latest Concepts Celebrate Imperfection

The Skeg & The Machina: MINI x Deus Ex Machina One-Offs

MINI has never been a brand to shy away from bold statements, but its latest collaboration with lifestyle powerhouse Deus Ex Machina takes things to another level. Together, the two icons have revealed two exclusive one-off John Cooper Works models that embody a daring philosophy: the beauty of imperfection.

The cars — The Skeg (electric) and The Machina (combustion) — are more than design experiments. They’re rolling reflections of culture, creativity, and raw passion, crafted for those who see machines as an extension of lifestyle.

MINI and Deus redefine automotive artistry by merging surf lifestyle with motorsport DNA.

MINI x Deus — A Creative Collision of Cultures

This partnership was born out of a shared love for craftsmanship, community, and culture. MINI’s motorsport heritage collides with Deus’ laid-back surf and motorcycle ethos, creating something entirely unique.

The “X” motif stretched across each car’s roof is more than a design element — it’s the ultimate signature of collaboration, symbolizing the uniting of two worlds.

The Skeg (Electric) — Surf Spirit on Wheels

If surfing had a four-wheeled equivalent, it would be The Skeg. Built on the MINI JCW Electric platform with 258 hp, this concept car captures the stripped-back, sun-drenched rhythm of coastal life.

Its fiberglass body panels cut weight while creating a translucent play of light, mirroring the feel of a surfboard. Tension straps across the roof mimic surfboard tie-downs, while neoprene bucket seats bring wetsuit vibes straight into the cockpit. Even the dashboard construction borrows from surfboard design, making it lightweight, durable, and visually distinct.

The car’s yellow-and-silver finish adds a progressive edge, while design details like a Flex Tip Surf Spoiler cleverly channel airflow like a board skimming over waves.

"The Skeg embodies coastal freedom — raw, light, and purpose-driven."

The Machina (Combustion) — Motorsport DNA Unleashed

If The Skeg whispers, The Machina shouts. With 231 hp from its combustion engine, this car pays tribute to MINI’s racing heritage in the loudest way possible.

Its red, black, and white livery, rally-inspired bonnet lights, and Can-Am-style rear spoiler scream motorsport nostalgia. Inside, a stripped-back cockpit featuring 5-point harnesses, aluminium floor plates, and a roll cage makes one thing clear: this car is built for pure adrenaline.

Controls are tactile and direct, with toggle switches, levers, and even a hydraulic handbrake connecting driver and machine. It’s the kind of car that thrives on the edge of chaos, just as MINI did in its Monte Carlo rally glory days.

"The Machina roars with racing spirit, precision, and old-school adrenaline.

Beyond the Cars — Capsule Collection Launch

The collaboration doesn’t stop at cars. MINI and Deus also rolled out an exclusive apparel collection, premiering at IAA Mobility 2025 before hitting global retail and online stores.

This capsule line blends motorsport heritage with Deus’ timeless design language, offering high-quality pieces that embody the same creativity, functionality, and craftsmanship as the cars themselves.

The collaboration extends beyond cars into fashion, lifestyle, and culture.

With the motto “You can be first after me”, MINI and Deus set the tone for a partnership that’s only just beginning.

"The IAA 2025 reveal marks just the beginning of MINI x Deus creative journeys."
